1.1 : I often receive this error when I want to send mail: Error 550 - User must check mail first

This might be caused by an error in your setup of your mail program for your email konto. To avoid abuse of NHL Data's mailserver, it has been configured in a way that means you must be validated before you're allowed to send an email. To avoid this problem, you must check the box that says: "My server requires authentication".
You can find a detailed explanation under E-mail in the menu.

1.2 : What is the name of the incomming (POP3) and the outgoing (SMTP) mail server?

To set up your mail program, you must name an incomming (POP3) as well as an outgoing (SMTP) server. Both servers names are: mail.domain.dk where "domain" is to be replaced by your domain name. If you own a domain that is not danish, the .dk is replaced by, for instance, .com - all depending on what your domain ends on.

1.3 : My mail program "hangs" while downloading mail. Is there something wrong with the mail server?

Most likely no, there is nothing wrong with the server. If you didn't get any error report, yet your mail program still seems to be stuck while downloading mail, then it is probably because the message you're trying to download is very large. This might be because it has a big file attached. If you do not have the patience, you can always use NHL WebMail to see what messages lies and waits to be downloaded. Here, there is also the possibility to see how much each and every message fills, as well as who the sender is. Via NHL WebMail, you can then delete the mail that blocks the other.

1.4 : What is NHL WebMail?

NHL WebMail is a web-based mailprogram that allows you to download and send mails by using a standard browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. This means that you're able to check your mail even though you're gone from your standard work-PC - for instance, if you're on a costumer visit or abroad.

For a more detailed description of NHL Webmail and its possibilities, see WebMail in the menu.

1.5 : Can I automatically forward mails to another email address?

Yes, it is possible to set up your account to automatically forward any mails you receive to another email address. This is done by logging on to your NHL WebMail. Then, head to the Menu "Settings" --> "WebMail Settings". Hereafter, you automatically log on to NHL WebAdmin, that makes it possible to change a wide range of settings for the email account, such as password, auto-answer (Out of Office reply), as well as forwarding mails. Click on the menu "My Account", then choose "Yes" in "This account will forward mails"
In "Forwarding addresses", write the email address to which the mails should be forwarded. Then, click safe changes.

1.6 : Certain senders cant send mails to me - they receive an error message from NHL Data's mailserver. Why does this not work?

NHL Data is trying as hard as possible to reduce the amount of SPAM-mails that slips through to our costumers.
One of the methods we use are checking the senders IP-address with a global list of known SPAM-sources. This list is used by many email-providers, just as NHL Data, and functions in short terms like this:

- When a SPAM-mail is received by the receiver, the senders IP-address is listed in the global database.
- Every time NHL Data receives an email to one of our costumers, we check if the sender is registered in this database.
- If this is the case, our mail server denies receiving the email (as it most likely is SPAM), and send an error message in return instead.

Sometimes, though, it happens that "normal" persons are registered in this database - it most likely happens by the persons getting a virus that sends SPAM mails, or by having an IP address given by the internet provider which has been used earlier by a SPAMmer.
Whichever way, though, it sadly results in that the person cannot send mails to NHL Data's costumers and most likely, they can neither send to alot of others since most mailservers checks this global list.
Therefore, the person must (eventually in coorperation with their internet provider) make sure that they're removed from this list which can be done by one of the following websites:

If the error includes a reference to SpamHaus.org:

- follow the guide on the site.

If the error includes a reference to RBL:

- follow the guide on the site.

If the error includes a reference to RSS:

1.7 : I cant see attached files in my WebMail. What is wrong?

This is most likely because you're using Windows XP and have installed SP (Service Pack 2). The symptom is typically that a pop-up picture is show in about 1/10 of a second, and then shut down again. This is because SP2 installs a "Pop-up" blocker, that blocks every time new browser windows are opened automatically.
The problem is solved by opening Internet Explorer, going into Tools-->Pop-up blocker --> pop-up blocker settings, and then adding webmail.nhl-data.dk to the list of allowed websites.
After doing this, it should work again.

1.8 : I cant send mails from my email client. What is wrong?

This might be because of your internet provider. Some providers have closed port 25 in their networks to protect you from email-vira and spam. Following this, many costumers have had problems with sending their emails, seeing that you no longer can use NHL Data's mail server.
You can solve the problem by using another server to outgoing mails (SMTP server).
Instead of using mail.yourdomain.dk, you must use your internet providers SMTP server.
Please contact your internet provider's support department - they will provide you with the name of the SMTP server that you must use.
